What is Email Marketing?

Email marketing is the use of email to promote a business’s products and services. It can make the customers on your email list aware of new products, discounts, and other services. It can also be a softer sell to educate your audience on the value of your brand or keep them engaged between purchases. It can also be anything in between.


Here’s an example of email marketing:

Imagine you own an online bookstore and want to promote the sale of bestselling books to your subscribers. You create an email marketing campaign to announce the sale and encourage subscribers to take advantage of the discounted prices.

  1. Email Design: You design an eye-catching email template that showcases the bestselling books on sale, highlights the discounted prices, and includes compelling visuals and persuasive copy to grab recipients’ attention.
  2. Email List: You segment your email list to target subscribers who have shown an interest in similar book genres or have previously purchased from your bookstore. Segmenting your list ensures you send relevant content to the right audience.
  3. Email Content: In the email, you introduce the sale, provide details about the discounted books, and include clear calls-to-action (CTAs), prompting recipients to shop now or learn more. You may also offer additional incentives, such as free shipping or limited-time offers, to entice recipients to purchase.
  4. Sending the Email: Once the email is finalized, you schedule it to be sent to your segmented email list at an optimal time when recipients are most likely to engage with their inbox.
  5. Tracking Results: After sending the email, you monitor key metrics such as open rates, click-through rates, and conversion rates to evaluate the effectiveness of your campaign. You also analyze customer feedback and behavior to make data-driven decisions for future email marketing efforts.
