What is a Drip Campaign?

A drip campaign is a series of automated emails sent to people who take a specific action. For any given action, you can choose how many emails to send and the rate at which to send them. These emails can be personalized with data like the contact name and specific references to the action they took. For example, you might send a drip campaign to someone who signs up for your online course. Or you could send a drip campaign to people who add an item to their online cart without buying it.

Example

Here’s an example of a drip campaign for a fictional online course:

  • Welcome Email: The first email in the drip campaign is sent immediately after a user signs up for the online course. It welcomes the subscriber, introduces the course, and sets expectations for what they can expect to learn.
  • Educational Content: Over the next few days or weeks, the subscriber will receive a series of emails containing educational content related to the course topic. These emails might include tips, tutorials, case studies, or success stories to provide value and demonstrate the course’s benefits.
  • Promotional Offers: As the drip campaign progresses, the subscriber may receive emails promoting special offers, discounts, or bonuses related to the course. These emails encourage the subscriber to enroll by highlighting limited-time deals or exclusive incentives.
  • Reminder Emails: If the subscriber hasn’t enrolled in the course after receiving the initial emails, the drip campaign may include reminder emails to encourage action. These emails might remind the subscriber of the course’s benefits or emphasize the urgency of taking advantage of the offer before it expires.
  • Follow-Up and Feedback: After the course enrollment period ends, the drip campaign may include follow-up emails to thank subscribers who enrolled, gather feedback on the course experience, and provide additional support or resources to help them succeed.

By using a drip campaign, the online course provider can engage subscribers over time, deliver relevant content, and ultimately increase conversions by nurturing leads through the enrollment process. Drip campaigns are effective for building relationships, boosting engagement, and driving conversions in various industries and marketing contexts.
